Since I have been building my Online Pie Shop, I have been getting so many messages about the pretty pie top designs. I used to spend so much time hand crafting lattice tops, then the crust gets warm, back to the fridge to chill, wait, and 30 minutes later I can bake the pie. I am going to walk to you through my crust cutting process in 1, 2, 3 steps!
1) Roll out your top pie crust on a well floured surface.
2) Place a piece of parchment paper on top and flip the crust over (slid a spatula underneath), and chill crust FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES.
3) Flour your Nordic Ware Lattice & Hearts Pie Top Cutter and press down evenly on the top crust.
Lift carefully, brush the edges of the bottom crust with egg wash to get a good seal, and slide your gorgeous pie top on and crimp!
TIP: I ordered this BPA-free Adjustable Pie Crust Shield from Amazon as well because I got tired of burning my hands and fingers placing foil over the edges.
If you want to hand cut a lattice top instead follow this exact same process and use a sharp pairing knife to make the size strips you want.
